THE LEGACY RECKONING: BLOODY DIAMONDS

CHAPTER 4: THE SHADOW WAR ON WALL STREET

Chapter 5 / 6

With Alexander locked in federal custody and Beatrice fleeing in terror from Sebastian Vance’s retribution, Clara turned her full attention to the final boss on the chessboard: Vance International itself.

By Thursday morning, the global financial markets were plunged into absolute chaos. Clara had launched a coordinated, high-frequency short-selling attack against every publicly traded subsidiary of Vance International. Utilizing the massive multi-billion-dollar liquidity of Evelyn Vance’s private trust, Clara flooded the markets with sell orders, driving the firm’s stock value down by tens of billions of dollars in a matter of hours.

Inside the opulent, wood-paneled London office of Vance International, Sebastian Vance stood over his terminal, watching the red numbers cascading down his screen like a digital bloodbath.

“How is she doing this?!” Sebastian roared, slamming his crystal tumbler of scotch against his mahogany desk, shattering it to pieces. “She’s dumping hundreds of millions of dollars in capital into short positions! Where is she getting this level of leverage?!”

His chief financial strategist, sweating profusely through his bespoke suit, stammered, “It’s… it’s Evelyn Vance’s private trust, sir. Evelyn didn’t just leave Clara her money. She left her the private bearer bonds from the 1980s sovereign bailouts. Clara has absolute, unencumbered liquidity. She can keep shorting our positions for weeks. We can’t margin-call her!”

Suddenly, the phone on Sebastian’s desk rang. It was his Swiss banking liaison.

“Sebastian,” the voice on the other end trembled with panic. “The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority has just frozen all Vance International clearing accounts in Zurich. They received a massive trove of leaked internal documents detailing illegal money laundering for sanctioned oligarchs.”

“Leaked documents?!” Sebastian bellowed. “From where?!”

“From the encrypted servers of Project Aegis,” the Swiss banker replied. “Someone transferred the entire database to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and the US Treasury thirty minutes ago.”

Sebastian slumped into his leather chair, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead. He realized instantly what had happened. Clara hadn’t just acquired Alexander’s corporate debt—she had used Alexander’s private access codes to systematically drain Vance International’s operational servers while the world was watching the Sotheby’s auction.

Before he could process the sheer scale of the disaster, the double doors of his private office burst open. Four senior agents from the UK Serious Fraud Office, flanked by Scotland Yard officers, stepped into the room.

“Sebastian Vance?” the lead investigator announced, producing a red warrant. “You are under arrest for international money laundering, bank fraud, and racketeering under the Extradition Act. You have the right to remain silent…”

As the officers clicked steel handcuffs around Sebastian’s wrists, his private phone rang one last time on the desk. The lead investigator answered it, placing it near Sebastian’s ear.

“Hello, Sebastian,” Clara’s voice was as calm and peaceful as a Sunday morning.

“You… you dangerous, arrogant bitch,” Sebastian snarled through gritted teeth. “You destroyed a dynasty that took half a century to build!”

“Dynasties built on blood and theft are meant to be destroyed, Sebastian,” Clara replied coolly. “Your brother Julian and your family took three years of my life. I took your entire legacy in three days. I consider us even.”

“You think you’ve won?” Sebastian spat, his voice laced with venom as officers pulled him toward the door. “You’re an outcast! The high-society elites will never welcome you back! You’re tainted!”

“You still don’t understand, Sebastian,” Clara said, her voice dropping to a low, lethal whisper. “I don’t want to be welcomed back into your high society. I came to burn it to the ground.”

The call disconnected.
